The Via Leucadense leads to the extreme south of Puglia, to reach the Basilica Santuario di Santa Maria de Finibus Terrae, a real masterpiece that opens into the two Adriatic and Ionian seas.
Since ancient times, an impressive number of pilgrims from France and Germany has arrived here, along the ancient so-called “streets of forgiveness“, to conclude the long paths dedicated to the Virgin Maria to ask forgiveness for their sins.
Our cyclotour leaves from the eighteenth-century Complex of Santa Maria del Belvedere, known as “Small Leuca“. It is an evocative place with dungeons excavated by hand and secrets kept in the chapel frescoed. Surrounded by ancient olive groves and fig trees you will visit the famous Messapic monument of the Centopietre in the village of Patù and the Church of San Giovanni in perfect Roman-Byzantine style.
Riding or walking in the Salento Countryside you will reach to Leuca with the guided tour of the baroque Basilica and the Sanctuary. There, you can relax tasting typical Salento products: the famous Frisa pugliese and a selection of local cheeses. You can sip a good Negroamaro wine, close to the Faro (the second highest lighthouse in Italy) with a unique sunset in the background.
